In 2018, the FDA posted a warning to the public about a “rare but serious infection of the genitals and area around the genitals” linked to a class of type 2 diabetes medicines called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. The FDA has recorded 12 cases of Fournier’s gangrene in both men and women from 2013 to 2018.
